How to Remove Pages from a PDF (Free, Online)

SnapPDF Team·

Almost every PDF contains a page you would rather not send: a blank page from the scanner, a cover sheet, a page with private information, or notes that were never meant to be shared. Deleting pages takes a minute and needs no software.

How to remove pages from a PDF

  1. Open the Remove pages tool and add your file.
  2. Type the pages to remove, using commas and ranges. For example 2,4-6 removes page 2 and pages 4 to 6.
  3. Press the Remove pages button and download the new PDF.

The remaining pages stay in their original order, and your original file is not changed.

Delete, cut, erase or take out a page: it is the same job

People call it different things (delete a page, cut pages out, erase or eliminate a page), but the result is the same: a new PDF without the pages you named. Whichever word you use, the steps above are all you need.

  • Delete one page: type its number, for example 3.
  • Remove several pages: list them, for example 2,5,9.
  • Remove a whole stretch: use a range, for example 4-10.
  • Remove blank pages: look through the file, note which pages are blank, and enter those numbers.

Check the page numbers first

Use the page numbers of the PDF viewer, not the numbers printed on the pages. A document with a cover and a table of contents can have page "1" printed on the third PDF page. Open the file, note the page positions you want to delete, and enter those.

Remove or extract: which is quicker?

If a 100-page report needs only pages 10 to 15, extracting is quicker than listing 94 pages to remove.

Important: removing a page is not the same as hiding information

If only part of a page is private, such as one name or number, removing the whole page may remove too much. Use Redact PDF to permanently remove the specific words while keeping the rest of the page. A black box or white-out only covers text and does not delete it, but redaction does.

Tips

  • Removing pages usually makes the file smaller. Run Compress PDF afterwards if you need it smaller still.
  • If the pages are in the wrong order, fix that with Organize PDF before adding page numbers.
  • After removing pages, add page numbers so they are continuous again.

Is my file safe?

Your file is encrypted in transit and at rest and deleted automatically, by default within 2 hours. See the privacy page.

Frequently asked questions

How do I enter the pages to remove?

Type page numbers and ranges separated by commas, for example 2,4-6 removes page 2 and pages 4 to 6.

Does the original file change?

No. Your original is never modified. You download a new file without the removed pages.

Is it better to remove pages or extract pages?

Remove pages when you want to delete a few. Extract pages when you want to keep only a few.

Can I remove only part of a page?

No, this tool removes whole pages. To remove words from a page, use Redact PDF.

How do I delete a single page from a PDF?

Type that one page number, for example 3, and run Remove pages. The rest of the document stays as it is.

How do I cut pages out of a PDF without losing the rest?

Enter the pages to cut, such as 2,5-7. You download a new PDF without them, and your original is not changed.
